We traveled to Belize in May 2012 for one week. We had a great time there and really enjoyed our week in the country. Belize has many popular spots for people to visit including the San Ignacio Cayo District (full of ancient Mayan ruins), the Placencia Peninsula (for beaches and diving), Corozal (for a laid back atmosphere sprinkled with a few Mayan sites and easy access to bordering Mexico), Orange Walk District (featuring the famous Lamanai Mayan site), Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker (both islands just off the main land featuring very different vibes, but both providing access to Belize’s famous coral reefs). We chose to split our time between land and sea, opting for the time in the San Ignacio region to start and finishing with a few days on Ambergris Caye. It was the perfect mix of activities and relaxation.
